Five Stone Garden: Dry Lake, Desert
Ink and watercolor pencils.
A new Five Stone Garden drawing/painting on a pebbly desert background. The stone arrangements are traces in ink of actual stones dropped onto the paper block. That semi-random placement of the stones is the central indeterminate aspect of the entire Five Stone Garden series
I did this a few nights ago, in watercolor pencils, thinking I would take a brush to it, and blur the colors, which was my original vision. But I decided to let it remain as a pencil piece, rather than taking it all the way to brushed watercolors. I like the subtle layers of desert coloration, the pebbles and lines and washes. This could be in the desert in California or New Mexico. Or it could be in a dry lake feature in a Japanese garden. I like it, so I'm going to let it stand.
