Notes on the process 2:
Stages of the new watercolor painting. I like painting in a semi-abstract manner to start out. Often the actual theme or imagery emerges from improvisations with the brush. This is moving towards a "stones in the river" theme. My usual method for watercolor is to do lots of translucent and transparent layers, building up depth and texture over several sessions. Watercolor is a terrific medium for layered textures and colors. Even if the theme of the painting changes direction, the underpainted layers are still there, giving a shimmer behind the surface.
I may let this one rest for awhile, and come back to it later.
