A lot of my sketches, ideas for letterpress, poems, and brush calligraphy pieces begin in my art journal. I don't keep a regular diary or daybook or journal, except as my art journal. This image shows an example of one of my calligraphy brush pen poems with a drawing. The image also shows my pocket notebook, which I always carry with me, to write down ideas when they occur. A lot of ideas come to me when I am out walking, or driving, or doing other things. Making things supports making more things, and some days there's a flood of ideas that I have to scramble to get down. That's what the art journal and notebook are for.
