Stone Circle

Stone Circle, Pescadero State Beach, CA

Materials: stones arranged on the beach at low tide

In addition to painting and drawing, I create site-specific art installations, including site-specific ephemeral "artworks" assembled from natural materials found at the site. This is one of the latter. These pieces (a la Andy Goldsworthy) are only meant to endure as long as the natural processes of erosion, tide, and time, allow them to; eventually, they disappear back into nature, the only record of their existence being the documentary photographs I have made at the site.

I began making these kinds of natural/ephemeral artworks in New Mexico in 2003, and continue to assemble them in locations where the energy of the place seems to call me to make them. They are a direct response to location, time, and mood.
